How to hang a banner tight and safely

How to hang a PVC banner so it is tight, secure and safe.

A tightly tensioned banner makes an instant impression; a slack or crooked one does not. With the right fixings and a little preparation, you can hang a banner quickly, tightly and safely. This article explains how to hang a banner and covers the key points to get right.

Start with the right eyelets and hems

A good PVC banner has reinforced hems and eyelets at the right spacing, every 50 cm as standard. The eyelets take the strain; without a reinforced hem, the banner will soon tear out. When you order, tell us where the banner will hang and we will put the eyelets in the right places.

Tension the banner evenly

First fix the banner loosely at the corners, then tension it evenly, from corner to corner. Use ball bungees, bungee cords or cable ties through the eyelets. Bungees absorb the wind and stop the eyelets tearing out in gusts.

How to hang a banner outside: choose mesh in windy spots

Will the banner hang in a windy spot, on a building front or on a construction fence? Then choose a mesh banner that lets the wind through. A solid banner catches the wind like a sail and pulls hard on the fixings; mesh stays taut and lasts longer.

Fix it securely to a wall or fence

Always fix the banner to strong, load-bearing points and use fixings that suit the surface, whether that is a brick wall or a fence. Check the tension regularly, especially after a storm. A properly hung banner will stay taut for months or even years.

Which banner for which location?

For a building front or an event, you will usually choose a solid PVC banner; for a construction fence or windy location, mesh. Indoors, a roller banner is a handy option. Take a look at our PVC banners and banners and fabric frames to make the right choice.
